Getting Started

  1. Open the podcast_player.php page
  2. Select a playlist from the dropdown
  3. The first podcast will start playing automatically

Playback Controls

Loop Modes

  • Off — Stops at end of queue
  • Loop All — Replays entire playlist

Shuffle Mode

Click the Shuffle button to randomise track order.

Queue

Click any podcast in the queue list to jump directly to it.

💡 Tip: Use the progress bar to seek to any position in the track.

Three Visualiser Types

🎚️ Equalizer Mode

Shows real-time frequency bars with 5-band EQ controls.

  • 60Hz — Bass
  • 250Hz — Low-mid
  • 1kHz — Mid
  • 4kHz — High-mid
  • 12kHz — Treble

Drag sliders to boost or cut each band from -12dB to +12dB.

🌈 Spectrum Mode

Circular frequency display with 64 bars. Shows audio in a radial pattern.

📊 Waveform Mode

Shows the entire track's waveform. Played portion is coloured, unplayed is grey.

  • Click anywhere on waveform to seek
  • Hover to see time position
  • White line shows current position
💡 Tip: The equalizer affects actual audio output via Web Audio API.

📡 Broadcast Mode (OBS) Everyone

What is Broadcast Mode?

Broadcast Mode transforms the player into a clean, fullscreen layout perfect for OBS streaming.

How to Activate

  • Click the 📡 Broadcast Mode button (top-right)
  • Or press B on keyboard

What Changes

  • Hides all controls, queue, and UI elements
  • Shows large podcast title, format title, and description
  • Shows cover image if available
  • Equalizer becomes large (350px height)
  • Clean gradient background
  • Brand footer at bottom

OBS Setup

  1. Activate Broadcast Mode
  2. In OBS, add a Browser Source
  3. Set URL to: https://www.jaysoftware.co.uk/podcast_player/podcast_player.php?broadcast=1
  4. Set resolution to 1920x1080
💡 Tip: Use ?broadcast=1 in URL to auto-activate Broadcast Mode.

No Audio Playing

  • Check audio file exists in /podcast_player/audio/podcasts/
  • Verify file path in admin panel
  • Check browser console (F12)

Equalizer Not Animating

  • Make sure audio is playing
  • Ensure HTTPS

Next/Previous Not Working

  • Check queue has multiple items
  • Verify playlist has podcasts assigned

Analytics Not Showing Data

  • Check podcast_analytics table exists
  • Verify log_playback endpoint

Drag-and-Drop Not Working

  • Use the ⋮⋮ handle to drag
  • Ensure JavaScript is enabled
  • Try a different browser
